#19 - what is MEDITATION?

Meditation is a tool. This tools helps to help combat stress, fosters physical health, helps with chronic pain, can make you sleep better, feel happier, be more peaceful, as well as be more present. The most successful, innovative men alive do it. Overworked, very, very busy and insanely rich hedge-fund managers all have one thing in common, they all meditate.

At first, my mind was all over the place. Profound thoughts about my past or future jostled with mundane thoughts about what groceries I needed to buy. Some time afterward I would notice that I had spent 15 minutes running a painful memory over and over It was like sitting in a crazy cinema! This process repeated itself too often and I was not sure how to deal with it. There are many things in life that are beyond our control.  I thought the ability to control your mind is one of the many things that I can’t control. I felt victim to my own negative thoughts and the negative environment. However, it is possible to take responsibility for our own mental state and change it for the better.

Mediation provides the possibility to be able to CALM and CONTROL your mind. For anyone who is looking to reap the benefits of meditation, it must be you done correctly and daily. There are different meditation practices and techniques each has its own benefits and drawback. In my opinion with mediation, there is no such thing as one size fit all. By this I mean the mediation practices which work for me, may not necessarily work for you. You might find my way mediation dull and boring. I would like to encourage to go on a quest to find a meditation practice and style which suits you as an individual. By engaging with a particular meditation practice you learn the patterns and habits of your mind, and the practice offers a means to cultivate new, more positive ways of being. With regular work and patience, these nourishing, focused states of mind can deepen into profoundly peaceful and energised states of mind. An experience like these can and will have a transformative effect and can lead to a new understanding of life.
